This pattern is to be done using worsted weight (medium or #4 weight) yarn. It was designed using Red Heart yarn. All stitches use a size J (6.00mm) crochet hook.

Gauge Block

Before starting the actual pattern, it is important to check the gauge of your crocheting. This involves making a rectangle of stitches to check against the desired size. For this, it is first a row of 16 chains, then 10 rows of 15 single crochets. It should come out to be around 4.6in wide and 2.7in tall. If it is not around this size, either adjust how tightly you are holding the yarn (pulling tighter makes it smaller and loosening makes it bigger) or increase/decrease the crochet hook size. Make sure any changes made to fix the gauge block are applied to the actual pattern, err on the side of too loose rather than too tight. If the skin is tight it will interfere with the lines pulling on the robot. A sample gauge block is below.

Pattern:

Start: make a starting loop, ch 43

Round 1: sc 42 (into starting chains, start at the initial loop to create a ring) -total of 42 stitches

Round 2: (sc 5, sc2tog) x 6 -total of 36 stitches

Round 3: (sc 9, sc2tog) x 3, sc 3 -total of 33 stitches

Next we stop changing row sizes and make the cylinder.

Rounds 4-38: sc 33 -total of 33 stitches and 35 rounds

Round 39: sc 33, sl - total of 33 stitches and 1 slip stitch

Tie off and tuck in ends. To help keep track of the rows, you can use stitch markers. In the sample image, a stitch marker was put in every 10 rows. Just remove the stitch markers at the end when the ends are tucked in.
