This pattern is to be done using worsted weight (medium or #4 weight) yarn. It was designed using Red Heart yarn. All stitches use a size J (6.00mm) crochet hook.
Abbreviations:
Single crochet - sc
Single crochet increase - sc inc
Do two single crochets (above) into the same stitch
Chain - ch
Single crochet two together - sc2tog
Slip stitch - sl
Repeat n times - ( … ) x n times
Gauge Block
Before starting the actual pattern, it is important to check the gauge of your crocheting. This involves simply making a rectangle of stitches to check against the desired size. For this, it is first a row of 16 chains, then 10 rows of 15 single crochets. It should come out to be around 4.6in wide and 2.7in tall. If it is not around this size, either adjust how tightly you are holding the yarn (pulling tighter makes it smaller and loosening makes it bigger) or increase/decrease the crochet hook size. Make sure any changes made to fix the gauge block are applied to the actual pattern. A sample gauge block is below:

At this point you should begin stuffing the ball with poly-fil stuffing or equivalent. Switch to yarn of desired eye color. In order to switch yarn, complete the final stitch of the previous round with the new color. Continue with this new color and tuck in the ends to prevent unraveling.

Connection (Note, if adding sensors wait on this step)
In order to attach the stuffed eye to the body of the stalk, you will need a yarn needle and some more of the white yarn. Thread the needle with the yarn. Using round 8 from the bottom of the eye and the top row of the skin, run the needle around both and tie a knot.

From there, run the needle around row 8 and the top of skin all the way around, shown along the curve in the image above. Tie off the yarn. You are now ready to put the eye on the robot.
